Sometimes, an author manages to fill their pages with enough fear and tension that will affect you more than you can imagine.
The Perfect Mother by Caroline Mitchell is beyond creepy… it hits the nail on the head when it comes to psychologically thrilling the reader, I was hooked!
Now, before I share my blog tour review, here’s the blurb…
Thomas & Mercer (14 Jan. 2020)
She thought they wanted her baby. But they won’t stop there.
Roz is young, penniless and pregnant. All she wants is to be the perfect mother to her child, but the more she thinks about her own chaotic upbringing, the more certain she is that the best life for her baby is as far away as possible from her hometown in Ireland.
Determined to do the right thing, Roz joins an elite adoption service and can’t believe her luck. Within days she is jetting to New York to meet a celebrity power couple desperate for a child of their own. Sheridan and Daniel are wealthy and glamorous—everything Roz isn’t. Her baby will never go hungry, and will have every opportunity for the perfect life. But soon after Roz moves into their plush basement suite, she starts to suspect that something darker lurks beneath the glossy surface of their home.
When Roz discovers she isn’t the first person to move in with the couple, and that the previous woman has never been seen since, alarm bells start ringing. As the clock ticks down to her due date, Roz realises her unborn baby may be the only thing keeping her alive, and that despite her best intentions, she has walked them both into the perfect nightmare…
Wow… wow… wowser!
I’ve been a fan of Caroline’s books for a few years now and have loved everything I’ve read. This one, though, takes it to another level!
As the blurb tells us, Roz finds herself hitting the streets of New York with a high-powered celebrity couple so they can adopt her baby. We know from the start that things aren’t going to be plain sailing… I mean, have you read that blurb?!
So, as much as I was expecting there to be issues, my god I was NOT expecting what I got.
I think my alarm bells started ringing before Roz’s did and to be honest, they didn’t stop until the last page!
Mitchell manages to create an atmosphere so filled with tension and trepidation, fear and unease is abound in this one. My hubby was loving it as I was having to snuggle up to him when reading! One night I even had to watch a Disney film after reading only a few chapters because I was that freaked out and on edge! It really is a testament to the author that she has created a world so scary and so intriguing all at once. As scared as I was, I couldn’t stop reading. I needed to know what happened. I had no choice but to feel everything the characters were as the writing is just that bloody brilliant!
I was in the room with Roz, I felt every single emotion she did. I felt it all. And when an author makes you feel… well… there’s nothing better for a bookworm!
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone and every one! It is beyond brilliant and one you should go and buy right now!
Hugest of thanks to the author and Sarah at Book on the Bright Side Publicity for my advanced review copy and for inviting me onto the tour. What an honour! What a book!
