Ten Thousand Doors of January touched my soul … what an unbelievably satisfying book! Here’s my #blogtour #review @AlixEHarrow @orbitbooks @Tr4cyF3nt0n

I genuinely don’t know where to start with this review.

Ten Thousand Doors of January is not my usual read but I promised myself that this year I would make an effort to read more books outside the crime/thriller genre and boy am I glad I chose this one.

First, I have to say ten thousand thank yous to Tracy Fenton and the Orbit team for inviting me on to the tour and for my advanced copy – I will treasure this book forever. I already know it will be one I read over and over.

Now, here’s the blurb …

In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored and utterly out of place.

But her quiet existence is shattered when she stumbles across a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page reveals more impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

My thoughts …

So, the first thing that grabbed when I opened the tour invite for this was the cover … it’s enchanting … I mean, just look at it! It’s stunning. Women of a certain age will remember the Magic Key shoes Clarkes used to sell … well this just made me think of those … and the worlds the advert promised to open.

Ten Thousand Doors of January is like that advert has been brought to the pages and I was finally able to go through them. And my God, what a journey I was taken on.

I fell in love with January straight away. Locked away, for want of a better term, in the house of Mr Locke, she is his ward while her father scours the world for more artefacts for Locke’s collection. January soon realises that she is almost a prized possession to Locke and starts on a journey to discover who she really is.

What follows is the discovery of multiple worlds and dimensions and magic and mystery and secret doors that open the imagination in a way I was captivated by. It is beautifully written and sucks you in to the pages in a way that will make you forget everything going on around you. I was immersed in the plot, in the characters, and in the writing.

Ten Thousand Doors of January touched my soul … it took me to places I want to go back to and every emotion and feeling it unlocked and created will stay with me forever.

I adore this book and I think you will too.
