I am over the moon to welcome author Carole Wolfe to the blog today as she shines the spotlight on a character from her debut, My Best Mistake. Carole, please introduce your character in terms of job, relationships, family etc. …
Tasha Gerome is a single mom of twins whose ex-husband is constantly causing problems. Tasha’s lack of confidence keeps her from living to her fullest extent, especially when she feels overshadowed by her older sister and constantly hounded by her mother.
When did you create Tasha?
Tasha came alive about five years ago. I was playing around with ideas for protagonists. I wanted someone stay-at-home moms could relate to. Tasha loves her kids, but she isn’t perfect. She beats herself up over that fact but must figure out how to overcome that.
Did you write the book to accommodate Tasha or Tasha to accommodate the book?
Tasha evolved to accommodate the book. I had lots of crazy ideas that I wanted to have happen to Tasha and I had to tweak the meek character I started with to make some of the plot twists make sense.
What do you like most about her?
Tasha was able to move forward in a positive way. She understands herself a little more. And she loves her family, no matter what drama they put her through. Her mother is overbearing, but Tasha figures out ways to deal with her.
What do you like least about her?
It took a while for Tasha to be able to stand on her own two feet. She wanted to be rescued, but that doesn’t happen in real life, so it took a few rewrites to figure out how to have Tasha rescue herself.
Did your early readers/editorial team like her to start with or did you have to change her in any way?
Not everyone liked Tasha. I got feedback that she was a pushover and needed to toughen up. I used this information to brainstorm ways that Tasha could be tougher but not so rigid she wasn’t likable. It can be a fine line when developing a character’s personality.
Does she have any similarities with anyone real?
I listen to conversations whenever I am out – at the grocery store, in line at the DMV, waiting in the pick-up line at school. It’s amazing the story ideas that can be generated just by paying attention to your surroundings. So yes, Tasha is similar to lots of people that I’ve come in contact with, but not necessarily one person in particular.
What are your plans for her?
Tasha will appear in the second book in the My Best Series. I’m in the process of writing Book two, My Best Decision – Sara’s Story. A three-chapter preview is available when you join my newsletter at carolewolfe.com.
Would you be friends in real life?
Yes, I would. She’s a spunky woman who has grown into herself. Plus, I love her taste in footwear!

My Best Mistake – Tasha’s Story is out now!
Here’s the blurb …
A lawsuit, an ex-husband, and a hotel full of men. Just another crazy day in the life of a single mom…Tasha Gerome tries to find the funny side of her everyday disasters. It’s just about the only thing that gets the single mother of twins through her chaotic life.
Well, that and a comfy pair of piggy slippers. But not everyone appreciates her brand of humor…Her deadbeat ex-husband certainly doesn’t get her jokes as he returns to town to bother her and the twins. A famous doctor threatens her with legal action over a misunderstanding. And her mother is more concerned with Tasha’s single status than her humor, dragging her kicking and screaming back into the dating game…
One thing is for certain. Fixing her legal troubles, getting rid of her ex, and finding a new man will take a whole lot of laughter… and a little help from her family…
My Best Mistake is a down-to-earth women’s fiction novel that celebrates a single mother’s courage and comedy. If you like sweet romance, snarky humor, and characters who tell it like it is, then you’ll love Carole Wolfe’s hilarious tale.
