Nothing in the book world compares to the feeling I get when I start the newest book in the DI Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons. I buy new bedding for every book that comes out, get myself snuggled up, and ignore the rest of the world until I’ve finished reading it. They never disappoint and I’m so excited to be sharing my review of book TEN Dead Memories with you all today.
Here’s the blurb …
Bookouture (22 Feb. 2019)
She ruined their lives. Now they’re going to destroy hers.
‘Someone is recreating every traumatic point in your life. They are doing this to make you suffer, to make you hurt and the only possible end game can be death. Your death.’
On the fourth floor of Chaucer House, two teenagers are found chained to a radiator. The boy is dead but the girl is alive. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago.
When the bodies of a middle-aged couple are discovered in a burnt-out car, Kim can’t ignore the chilling similarity to the death of Erica and Keith – the only loving parents Kim had ever known.
Faced with a killer who is recreating traumatic events from her past, Kim must face the brutal truth that someone wants to hurt her in the worst way possible. Desperate to stay on the case, she is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe who has been called in to observe and monitor Kim’s behaviour.
Kim has spent years catching dangerous criminals and protecting the innocent. But with a killer firmly fixed on destroying Kim, can she solve this complex case and save her own life or will she become the final victim?
The heart-stopping and totally addictive new crime thriller from multi-million copy number one bestseller Angela Marsons will have you completely hooked.
My thoughts …
Once again I was in tears at this one. If you read my reviews regularly you’ll know that this is my favourite series and opening the pages of a DI Kim Stone book feels like I’m at a family reunion. I feel so connected to and invested in these characters they are like family!
It’s funny how a crime series can make me cry so much, but that’s testament to Marsons’ writing and skill that she has created a team so brilliant.
Back in the early books, Kim Stone is a hard-as-nails detective who has no close friends, no family, and who is so far detached from any form of bond to anyone, it’s almost unbelievable she’s in the police force.
As the series has progressed, we’ve seen her develop into someone who has a much deeper side to her and slowly, it’s starting to come to the fore. She is brilliant. She is amazing.
The team she works with have been through some difficult times recently, and in book ten, they are set to face one of their hardest challenges yet.
Someone from Kim’s past has discovered everything about her. Things she thought no one else knew, and they are using this information to hurt her, and others.
Kim has always been such a private person that this information being shared with her team, them seeing her through new eyes, is hard for her to handle. She thinks they will look at her differently from now on and she’s terrified of what they’ll think of her now.
The team are literally in a race against time to find out who wants Kim dead so badly, and to be fair, there is a long list of people it could be. But whoever it is, they are taking their revenge on Kim out on random strangers. This is devastating for Kim, she has spent her life protecting people and now, something she has done is making someone kill people.
Marsons has managed to keep this series fresh and new and wonderful.
Each book is a rollercoaster of a thrill-fest – it is, by far, the best police procedural series out there and deserves its phenomenal success.
There isn’t a character who disappoints, a plot that doesn’t add up … there isn’t anything about these books that shouldn’t be celebrated.
I love these books, I love Kim Stone, and most of all, I love Marsons’ writing. She is amazing!
You absolutely need to read this series.

About the author …
Angela Marsons is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of the DI Kim Stone series and her books have sold more than 3 million in 3 years.
She lives in the Black Country with her partner, their cheeky Golden Retriever and a swearing parrot.
She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read “Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people’s”.
After years of writing relationship based stories (The Forgotten Woman and Dear Mother) Angela turned to Crime, fictionally speaking of course, and developed a character that refused to go away.
She is signed to Bookouture.com for a total of 16 books in the Kim Stone series and her books have been translated into more than 27 languages.
Many of her books, including Blood Lines, Dead Souls, Broken Bones, Fatal Promise and Dead Memories reached the #1 spot on Amazon on pre-orders alone.
