#CharacterSpotlight Stacy, the main character in Melinda Huber’s new #chicklit series @MelHuberCH

I am over the moon to welcome Melinda Huber to the blog today as she introduces us to her new character, Stacy, from her new series set on the stunning backdrop of the lakes of Switzerland.

Over to you, Melinda …

A Day in the life of …

Stacy spent the weeks leading up to her fateful holiday in N.E. Switzerland wondering what on earth she was going to do with her life. She had qualified as a staff nurse the year before, horrified to realise that the cut and thrust of hospital nursing just wasn’t for her. Her poor patients – it was so hard to help them when her heart was breaking to see them suffer. David, her med. student fiancé, told her she should keep her distance, emotionally, but Stacy’s kind heart couldn’t do that. Was she in the wrong job, as a hospital nurse? A break spent working for her dad seemed like a good idea.

Life as assistant in the family stationery shop was certainly more peaceful – the business was failing. Every morning, Stacy would leave the flat she shared with her friend Emily, walk through the park, spend the next eight hours hanging around the shop with her mum and dad, serving the odd customer and drinking gallons of tea – and watching the worried creases on her dad’s face grow deeper by the day. In the evening she’d go home again, to the flat where Emily was limping around on crutches, recovering from a bad car crash. Fun had turned into a foreign concept to both girls – the days of meeting friends in nearby Manchester, going to concerts and clubs and galleries, seemed like a lifetime ago.

To make matters worse, David was coming up to his final exams, studying all the hours of the day and putting more and more pressure on Stacy to share his dream of working in a city-centre trauma unit. Stacy’s dream was different now – a year or two as a community nurse, perhaps, helping people in their daily lives, and a family of her own at some point.

One day, when Stacy was wondering if her dream would ever meet David’s, and Emily was wondering if she’d ever walk normally again, the phone rang. Emily’s dad had won a holiday for two by a lake in Switzerland, and was giving his prize to the girls. So, on a sunny afternoon in May, Stacy and Emily arrived at the Lakeside Hotel. And that’s where the adventure really started…

I was lucky enough to work with Melinda on this book in its infancy and it is a real feel-good, heartwarming read which I highly recommend!

Here’s the blurb …

Fabrian Books (27 Feb. 2018)

Stacy can’t believe her luck when her best friend Emily invites her on a holiday to Switzerland.
She arrives at the Lakeside Hotel with high hopes, but the problems begin straightaway. Emily’s recent injury doesn’t let her do much, and something is wrong at the hotel. Where are all the guests? Why is the owner’s son so bad-tempered? And then there’s the odd behaviour of Stacy’s fiancé, back home. It’s hard to enjoy the scenery with all this going on…
By the last day of the holiday, Stacy knows her life will never be the same again – but the end of the week is just the beginning of the Lakeside adventure.
