#BlogTour The Visitors by Catherine Burns @C_Burnzi ‏@Legend_Press #compelling #discombobulated

The Visitors by Catherine Burns is one of the creepiest books I’ve read for a while and I’m delighted to share my review as part of the blog tour.

Here’s the blurb …

Legend Press (3 Oct. 2017)

Marion Zetland lives with her domineering older brother, John in a decaying Georgian townhouse on the edge of a northern seaside resort. A timid spinster in her fifties who still sleeps with teddy bears, Marion does her best to shut out the shocking secret that John keeps in the cellar.

Until, suddenly, John has a heart attack and Marion is forced to go down to the cellar herself and face the gruesome truth that her brother has kept hidden.

As questions are asked and secrets unravel, maybe John isn’t the only one with a dark side.

My thoughts …

From the off, this book had me completely discombobulated.

I was all over the place with my feelings whilst reading this. I was disturbed and fascinated in equal measures and that’s not a feeling I get very often!

Marion is a spinster who comes across as very childlike and innocent. She doesn’t seem very world wise and, as the chapters take us back in time to her childhood, we start to see why.

Her brother, John, is peculiar character. He spends all his time in the cellar with their visitors. But who the visitors are and what they are doing there is anyone’s guess.

When John has a heart attack, it is down to Marion to look after the visitors, but what she finds down in the cellar … well … you’ll have to get the book and find out for yourself!

Brilliantly written and completely compelling, this is one of those books that will have you out of your comfort zone but in such a way that you cannot help but keep on reading, highly recommended by this little bookworm!

My thanks to the author and the team over at Aria Fiction for my review copy and for inviting me on to the tour.
