JENSEN WEEK DAY SIX

Louise Jensen shot to fame last year following the release of her debut novel The Sister.

Selling just short of half a million copies within six weeks, Jensen’s psychological thriller was the book on everyone’s lips and kindles!

And now, just over a year later, Little, Brown imprint, Sphere have purchased the rights to the paperback and it hit the bookshops and supermarkets on Thursday! This is obviously VERY exciting for both Louise and the publisher. The Sister is available in Asda, Sainsbury’s, and WH Smith now and in Tesco from 7 September!

To celebrate this wonderful news, I will be posting an exclusive character spotlight or guest post every day for the next week, each one will focus on a different character from Jensen’s books, The Sister, The Gift, and her next novel, The Surrogate, which is out on 27 September.

On Thursday, Louise joined me to talk about Charlie Fisher, one of the lead characters in The Sister and you can read that here.

On Friday I was joined by Grace’s grandma from The Sister and you can read that post here.

Saturday saw us move to The Gift and Louise joined me to talk about main character, Jenna McCauley and you can read that here.

Sunday I was joined by Jenna from The Gift , you can read that here.

On Monday, we moved to The Surrogate, Jensen’s new book which is out on 27 September and Louise joined me to talk about one of the main characters, Lisa, you can read that here.

Today, we met Kat from The Surrogate

Hello. My name’s Kathryn but I prefer Kat. It makes me feel lighter I think. Kathryn reminds me of the past and I never want to think about the past.  I don’t know what I can tell you about myself. We all like neat little boxes we can slot people in to, don’t we? I’m a wife and I work full time for a charity but neither are who I am. I would say I can’t be defined by a label but there’s one label I would gladly wear. Mother.

It makes me feel less of a woman somehow that I can’t conceive and it’s not something I talk about readily but I can share it with you because things are about to change. I’m going to have a baby!

I’d virtually given up hope. Nick and I had tried so many different avenues and I’d resigned myself to never filling the gaping black hole inside of me, when Lisa came back into my life.  Seeing her again was like a punch in the gut. I’d moved away, run away some might say, built a new life. Bumping into my childhood best friend was unexpected but as it goes, not entirely unpleasant. My stomach dropped the second I saw her of course, but to my surprise she smiled and hugged me and it was as though the last ten years just fell away.

We’d fallen out over … Well that doesn’t matter now. I think she’s forgiven me, I really do and when we resumed our friendship and she offered to be our surrogate, I was overcome with gratitude. Now she’s pregnant!

Ok. Look. If I’m honest, as time passes I’m getting a sense that things aren’t quite right and not just with Lisa. Nick too is acting odd. So are our friends. Strange things are happening. Frightening things. It’s getting harder to hold it together. But I won’t fall apart again. I won’t. So what if they have their secrets? I have mine and once the baby is here, everything will be perfect, won’t it? Being a parent is all about love and forgiveness I think and I’m not the only one that needs to be forgiven. Just because Lisa betrayed me before. It doesn’t mean she’ll do it again, does it?

She can’t be responsible for all the bad things happening, can she? But if she’s not, who is?

Oh god, now I’m scared. Really scared.

I can honestly say that The Surrogate is some of Louise’s BEST writing and you MUST MUST MUST get this book pre-ordered! It’s out on 27 September and is available to pre-order now, so read the blurb, click the link and book the day off work, you will not be able to put this one down!!!!

‘You know that feeling? When you want something so badly, you almost feel you’d kill for it?’

Be careful what you wish for…

Kat and her husband Nick have tried everything to become parents, and are on the point of giving up. Then a chance encounter with Kat’s childhood friend Lisa gives Kat and Nick one last chance to achieve their dream.

But Kat and Lisa’s history hides dark secrets.

And there is more to Lisa than meets the eye.

As dangerous cracks start to appear in Kat’s perfect picture of happily-ever-after, she realises that she must face her fear of the past to save her family…
