I am delighted to be part of the blog tour for Holding Myself today and I have a great guest post for you from Victoria …
Dreams can come true!
Receiving the email from Betsy at Bombshell Books, to tell me they would publish my Chaos Series, was a dream come true. Since being a little girl I wanted to write books. I’m definitely one of those authors who has writing in their bones. Even as I was growing up I had piles of notebooks filled with stories. While my friends played outside, I’d be scribbling about my latest plot.
But as I became older, life took over, my writing dreams were put on the back burner, degrees completed, marriage, kids … my dreams of writing seemed to become a distance dream.
However, it was on holiday with my in-laws, that I knew I couldn’t go back home without knowing I had a focus. We’d had so much go on in our lives, from family fall-outs to moving in with my in-laws when I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter because my husband was losing his business.
I was letting life happen to me.
It was on this holiday, that I knew I had to take control. I needed to get back into my writing. So I decided to enrol on a MA in Creative Writing at Teesside University. I had two children under the age of 4, a husband who was just getting over a severe mental breakdown after being diagnosed with bi-polar … and that’s just a small part of what was happening in my life at that time, so I really wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do, but I had the urge and I knew I had to do it … and I did!
I not only worked part-time, was full-time mum, supporting my husband with his health, I achieved my MA … and won a short-story competition judged by Adele Parks.
I learnt many things at this time … how to stay strong, how to keep going and how to stay focused.
I was making life happen.
It was around this time, I started to learn things about the Law of Attraction. I was introduced to the ‘The Secret’ written by Rhonda Byrne. I started to use techniques related to the Law of Attraction. Anyone who is going through a bad time, will find it hard to focus their thoughts on being grateful and positive about life, but that’s what the Law of Attraction is about.
Has it ever occurred to you that when you’re feeling negative and looking at what’s wrong with your life, more negative things happen? That had certainly happened to me.
Once I learnt the skills to manifest and visualise what I wanted, my life started to move forward. However, as much as I believe we can manifest what we would like, I truly believe that the universe knows what is best for us. So if we don’t get what we ask for the universe knows there is something better for us.
So when I received the email from Bombshell Books, it was the exact right time in my life. I am so truly grateful to the team at Bombshell and especially Betsy for believing in me. It also shows that dreams can come true.
Having lived with someone who is bi-polar and suffering with post-natal depression definitely opened me up to understanding mental health from all aspects. It has also giving me the drive to help others.
Writing for me is therapeutic, so whether I create a story or just off-load onto a piece of paper, it’s a therapy that I love. My novels have been very therapeutic for me to write, as they relate to real-life issues and my aim is to connect with my readers emotionally.
It was my love for all things inspiring and therapeutic writing that I decided to create an inspirational blog and centre it on therapeutic creative writing. I want people to feel the love that they deserve, give love to others as much as they can and be grateful that they are alive and have the choice to move their lives forward. This can be hard when challenges are put on our life path, or when life feels as if we’re walking through thick treacle, but if you were to choose to see the positive in all challenges, life can only move forward. My blog helps people to understand this, while given therapeutic writing exercises to help develop the skills to live an inspired life. If you’d like to have a go at some of the exercises, please visit my website www.victoria-brown.com and you can also download your own free inspirational quotes book.

About the author …
Victoria J. Brown has always had a passion for writing. When asked at the age of 9 years old, what she wanted to be when she grew up, her reply ‘an author’ was met with a disheartened response, ‘that jobs like that, don’t happen to people like us!’
Luckily, Victoria didn’t listen to this advice and never gave up on her passion. She continued to write while perusing a career in Marketing after gaining a BA (Hons) in Business and Marketing.
In 2006 her eldest daughter was born and then two years later her 2nd daughter came along. Victoria realised in the midst of the mummy madness, that she’d let her writing dwindle and that nappy-changing, sleepless nights and not being able to go to the toilet in peace could not stop her fulfilling her writing dreams. So when her girls were 3 years old and 18 months old, she decided that sleep was over-rated and enrolled at Teesside University. A year later she proudly left with a MA in Creative Writing, some wonderful friendships and a passion for therapeutic writing. While studying for her MA she was also delighted to win a short-story competition judged by Adele Parks, to which she received publication and mentoring from Adele.
After her MA, Victoria concentrated on writing women’s fiction. She loves writing stories that women can relate to. The Chaos Series grew from her own experience of pregnancy, motherhood and life.
Victoria is also passionate about mental health and likes to write of such issues in her stories. Her dedication to mental health and living life to the full has led her down a spiritual path. Through her learning of spirituality she qualified as a Law of Attraction and NLP Practitioner, which she integrates into her writing. Her inspirational blog includes an A-Z motivational journey with weekly therapeutic creative writing exercises. She has developed this further and will soon launch her inspirational shop. The shop has been created to pass on positivity and love to others … you never know when someone may need to see those messages.
Being accepted by Bombshell Books is a dream come true for Victoria, she hopes that her mantra for giving love always and never giving up will inspire others to follow their dreams and passion.
