#Review High Force by LJ Ross @ljross_author #HighForce #Cragside #DCIRyan #selfpublish #author #indieauthor

Today I am going to share a review that I should have shared AGES ago, High Force by LJ Ross. High Force is book five in the DCI Ryan series and follows on from where Angel (you can read my review of that one here)

First, here’s the blurb …

High Force: A DCI Ryan Mystery (The DCI Ryan Mysteries Book 5) by [Ross, LJ]

Hell has unleashed a demon – and he’s coming for you…

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan’s worst nightmare has just become a reality. Notorious serial killer The Hacker has escaped prison and kidnapped one of his best detectives from her own home. His brutality is the stuff of legend – Ryan lost his sister and nearly his own life bringing the man to justice first time around. Can Ryan do it again to save his friend?

There’s a nationwide manhunt underway but the trail has gone cold and fear spreads like a virus. Ryan and his team must find The Hacker before he takes another life – but are they too late?

The clock is ticking…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

My thoughts …

I was furious with the author at the end of Angel

How on earth could she do that to us? What a meany she is!!!

But I’ll forgive her now that I have read High Force

My god! This series just gets better and better. The characters get stronger, the plots more sinister, and the criminals more vile. WOWSERS!

It’s going to be hard discussing the plot line on this as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who has yet to read this series however it is clear from the blurb that DCI Ryan and the team are up against one of the most despicable criminals, one who is intent on destroying Ryan and in his attempt to do so, has abducted one of Ryan’s officers.

As the team pull together, more so than they ever have before, they are up against the clock to find The Hacker before they find their friends body.

Once again Ross has knocked it outta the park. She has an amazing writing talent, her words just flow and drag you into the world she has created on the pages. I’ve never been to the places in her books, but she writes about them so well that I may well know my way around if I ever do go there!

The setting is practically a character itself, it is that well described and involved in the plot.

I love Ross’ writing style, there’s a hint of humour, a passion for her home town and the blatantly obvious level of research she carries out jumps off the pages. There is no denying that she is a force to be reckoned with in the crime thriller genre, she has that thing, you know the one? Where the writing is just so great, so dark, and so haunting at times that you cannot help but be swept along with it, totally captivated by the scenes she sets and the world she has created. Its wonderful. Completely wonderful to be taken on these thrilling rides with Ross’ characters.

High Force is a wonderfully addictive and devilishly devious instalment in this enthralling series, you absolutely NEED to get it and get it now!!!!

It’s available over on Amazon UK

I had read the book but I was also lucky enough to win an audio version, which is narrated by the spellbinding Jonathan Keeble, and let me tell you – it’s bloody amazing!!! He is a wonderful narrator and does the book so much justice. My skirting boards have never been so clean as I was finding excuses to warrant listening to it!

This is a series I highly recommend you start folks!!!

And you lucky lot wont have to wait long for the next one in the series as Cragside out on MONDAY!!!!! I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

You can pre-order your copy NOW over at Amazon UK

Here’s the blurb …

Cragside: A DCI Ryan Mystery (The DCI Ryan Mysteries Book 6) by [Ross, LJ]

Are you afraid of the dark..?

After his climactic battle with notorious serial killer The Hacker, DCI Ryan is spending the summer with his fiancée within the grounds of Cragside, a spectacular Bavarian-style mansion surrounded by acres of woodland. When they are invited to attend the staff summer party – a Victorian murder mystery evening – it’s all a joke until the lights go out and an elderly man is found dead. It looks like an unfortunate accident but, as the dead man’s life begins to unfold, Ryan and his team of detectives realise that all is not as it appears.

When a second body is found, terror grips the close-knit community and Ryan must uncover the killer who walks among them, before they strike again…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.
