#Special #bookhangover with #ScaredToDeath author Rachel Amphlett @RachelAmphlett

Hello lovelies,

I am delighted to welcome author Rachel Amphlett onto my blog today for a super Sunday special #bookhangover to help celebrate the release of her latest novel, Scared to Death.

So, without further ado . .

Who are you and what do you do?

Thanks for having me here, Emma and I love this idea!

I’m a crime thriller author originally from the UK but currently living in Brisbane, Australia. Before I emigrated I used to play guitar in bands, helped to run a pub for two years, and worked in local radio as a freelance producer and broadcast assistant. Not all at the same time!

What gives you an actual hangover?

Bad wine. I try to avoid it at all costs 🙂

What TV programme?

DCI Banks – I think it’s perfectly cast. I really look forward to each series – of course, being in Australia I get to see them a lot later than the UK, but it’s worth the wait.

What film?

The Bourne films – I simply can’t get enough of them. I love the action, the storytelling, the soundtracks and the slick production. I think when the first films were released, a lot of other film franchises had to lift their game considerably (I’m looking at you, James Bond).

What song?

Crumbs, that can change depending on what mood I’m in or what’s out. I’ve been digging out some old stuff recently while working on this blog tour though, and I’m really enjoying The Chemical Brothers’ Exit Planet Dust again.

What food?

Sushi. Love the stuff. I don’t eat any other meat, I only eat fish, and sushi is one of those luxuries that you’d never bother faffing around with to make for yourself.

Which person/people?

My grandad, who lives in West Sussex these days. I only get to see him every couple of years, and he’s 96 now. We write to each other every month without fail, though and I phone him every other month. I wouldn’t be writing what I write if it wasn’t for his reading tastes influencing mine when I was about 12 or 13. He’s brilliant, and has a wicked sense of humour.

And finally, … Which book?

The Jim Butcher Harry Dresden series. Probably not an obvious choice for a crime thriller author, but every time I’ve read the latest one out, I’ve been wringing my hands at the knowledge there’s not going to be another one for two years…

Thank you so much for joining me today Rachel, it’s been super having you here!

Now for those of you who have been under a rock for the last few weeks, Rachel’s new DI Hunter series kicks off  with a bang, Scared to Death is one of the most thrilling books I have read this year!

Here’s the blurb . . .

scared-to-death-cover-ebook-largeA serial killer murdering for kicks. A detective seeking revenge.

When the body of a snatched schoolgirl is found in an abandoned biosciences building, the case is first treated as a kidnapping gone wrong.

But Detective Kay Hunter isn’t convinced, especially when a man is found dead with the ransom money still in his possession.

When a second schoolgirl is taken, Kay’s worst fears are realised.

With her career in jeopardy and desperate to conceal a disturbing secret, Kay’s hunt for the killer becomes a race against time before he claims another life.

For the killer, the game has only just begun…

Scared to Death is the first book in a new crime thriller series featuring Kay Hunter – a detective with a hidden past and an uncertain future…

My thoughts . . .

Scared to Death starts with a bang!

The parents of a young school girl are racing against the clock to get to their daughter, who has been kidnapped. They must reach her in time, otherwise she dies . . .

What a nightmare this starts out with! Every parents worst fear is realised in the first page of this book and the tension, fear and mental anguish doesn’t stop at all!

Rachel writes so well, I loved how I was totally drawn into the words of this book, completely a totally gripping me from the first word to the last. I sometimes find that when we are reading the first of a series, the author tends to focus a lot on building the characters (which is fine by the way, it’s such an important part of the writing/reading process) but it does sometimes mean that the focus on the story is lost and perhaps the actually story is lost, not with Rachel though, Oh no! Rachel not only manages to build an amazing set of characters that I am desperate to know more about, she also delivers an amazingly gripping, thrilling and completely absorbing story too.

There is no let up in this book, we are taken a roller coaster of twists and turns as the team race against the clock to catch a killer.

Scared to Death is a fast paced, gritty page turner that will leave you on the edge of your seat, gasping for breath!

I would highly recommend this to any crime book fans, it’s a belter!!!!

Thank you so much for inviting me onto your blog tour Rachel and for my copy of the book to help me prepare for it. I will treasure it and I am so looking forward to the rest of the series!

You can go and get your copy over at Amazon UK  now, in both EBook and paperback (it will make a GREAT stocking filler!!)
