#Review #BlogTour ~ Trace This Scar by Jessikah Hope Stenson @JessikahHope @ExcaliburPress

I am delighted to have been invited to join the blog tour for Jessikah Hope Stenson’s debut thriller novel, Trace This Scar which was released by Excalibur Press on the 22nd November 2016.

The blurb . . .

A Lie. A Betrayal. A Murder. Daphne has everything she’s been dreaming of since the day her parents died when she was a teenager. A husband, a home and a job. The only problem is her beloved Rich’s ex girlfriend Gina who won’t leave them alone. Filled with jealousy, Gina’s interference soon escalates into harassment. But one day, Gina disappears. When Rich is sentenced to sixteen years in prison for murdering Gina, Daphne refuses to believe he is guilty. But what else could explain his mysterious disappearances? And if Rich didn’t kill Gina… … Then who did?

My thoughts . . .

What an unsettling read this is!

We start by meeting Daphne, she’s really down on her luck, she lives in a hovel and her husband is in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Gina. Daphne is convinced that Rich didn’t do it, but she isn’t in any position to help him and so her world crumbles around her. Barely scrapping by on her bookshop wages, she is at an all time low, until Jamie walks through the shop doors.

At 26, and having been fired from yet another dead end job, Jamie is told by his parents that he must finally learn to stand on his own two feet and they ask (tell) him to move out. Staying on his friends’ sofa isn’t agreeing with him and, roaming the streets one afternoon he stumbles into a random book shop and meets Daphne.

They strike up, what I thought was, a rather peculiar friendship.

Daphne gets him a job and offers him a place to stay and they begin a strange relationship.

This is a really twisty kinda book. With things going from bad to worse, to good to bad to ok and back again and I loved the way Stenson spun the tale and takes us into the past to build up the present. It really added a depth to the book that would have been really missed had she not taken this route.

As the creepiness and tension builds, so do the secrets and the revelations and the shockers! I had no idea what the outcome was going to be on this one! BRILLIANT!!!

This is definitely one to add to your wish lists!

Thank you to the team at Book Connectors on Facebook and to Jessikah Hope Stenson for inviting me to take part in this tour and for sending me a copy of the book ready to review for this tour.
