The blurb . . .

Heidi and Jason aren’t like other couples. Six years ago, Heidi’s daughter was murdered. A year later, Jason’s son Barney disappeared. Their shared loss brought them together.

By chance, Heidi meets a boy she’s certain is her husband’s long-missing son – but Jason is equally convinced it’s not him.

Is Heidi mad? Or is Jason hiding something? And can their fragile marriage survive Heidi’s search for the truth . . .

My thoughts . . .

I have found that recently, some books claim to be psychological thrillers, but they’re not really, so I am rather dubious when I read that description. I needn’t have worried with this one because my gosh! What a flipping book!

Heidi and Jason met through their shared grief, her daughter was murdered, his son has disappeared without a trace.

Heidi is convinced that she has found Barney but Jason thinks she is seeing things and doesn’t think that the little boy in question is his son. As Heidi starts to question her husbands refusal to investigate further, she starts to uncover secrets, Jason starts to act strange, becomes distant and is blatantly hiding something. But why, and more importantly, what?

From the start this book is dripping with an intensity and suspense that does not let up at all, ever! It’s bloody great!

I really liked Heidi, she is a strong woman, coming through the murder of her daughter and helping her husband deal with the fact that his son is out there, somewhere. There were times however that I wanted to scream at her! What on earth are you doing woman!? She was slightly infuriating, but then I thought, what would I do? And to be honest, everything that she does, I’d have done too.

This is a great book, the story unravelling and twisting and turning and shocking and stunning; it leads you up the garden path and then back again with a relentless pace that will leave you breathless! This is one ending that you will not guess!

It is a fantastic book and an absolute must read!

Thank you so much to Deborah and The Book Club on Facebook – Reviewer Request Group for my review copy, I loved it!

  1. I agree about so many books being classed as psychological thrillers and they are anything but, which then causes me to be disappointed and if i had read it under the correct genre i would have probably enjoyed it more. Think publishers use it to sell books but i think it can affect the ratings if marketed incorrectly. I’ve just finished Duplicity by Sibel Hodge and boy that is without a doubt a psychological thriller. x

    1. It’s really frustrating!

Our time is so precious and reading something that isn’t what we expect it to be is flipping annoying!

I also hate inaccurate blurbs and misleading tag lines! They really wind me up.

Thankfully, this one is absolutely spot on in every way!
